Surprise and Unexpected Joy
When I take the time to mail a card with a personal note or to write a letter, it requires a level of investment that goes beyond the quick text or email. In our digital age, where instant communication is the norm, receiving physical mail, especially unexpectedly, is a happy surprise.
As I gather my thoughts, writing a letter encourages me to slow down and reflect. Letters require more deliberate and thoughtful approaches, creating space for genuine connection.
I successfully taught our son and daughter that I want their thoughts on a card.

Bernadette sent me mail because we are friends.
The perfect timing of her delivery was God’s doing.
Berna and I have never met in person and likely won’t.
She lives in California. I live in Colorado.
We are connected as writers who belong to a virtual community of writers.
As friends do – we just connected.
As writer do – we just get it.
Every so often one of us sends the other mail.
But we are more than pen pals.
We are friends.
But we are more than friends.
We are writer friends.

A sweet card for a sweet friend
going through a HARD time

From my thoughtful friend Lisa

I brought this to church for everyone to sign
for our friend Lisa, in treatment for breast cancer.

A poem mailed from my sweet husband
to our only granddaughter.

Letters were included – I told stories
of Easters long ago…
I got the recipient remembering…

A beautiful handcrafted card
that my kindhearted friend Janice sent me

For my writer friend Janice
who has had unbelievably hard health issues.

I wrote letters…
letters with each card I sent…
newsy, fun-to get letters in the mail were mailed.

From my daughter…HER sweet thoughtful words

From our son to the both of us celebrating
Mother’s Day & his dad’s birthday…and HE writes
being grateful for such amazing parents…
teaching by example how to do life…

And
I wrote them letters – fun, newsy letters
but mostly letters to let them know
how much their words mean.
Do you think it’s fun to get cards with personal notes and letters?
Do you write letters?

Beautiful….lovely topic to share…beautifully stated expressions of human connection and shared caring. I don’t write many letters, but indeed, I do enjoy writing, sending and receiving greetings and notes.
Thank you for writing and sharing these in your blog. I especially enjoyed hearing about your California writer friend and reading Grandpa Bruce’s night sky happenings in his note to Theresa.
And, yes, I wholeheartedly agree, it’s a precious gift to receive written words of affirmation and affection from our children and grandchildren! (& you, my friend!)
Happy Saturday to you!
Thank you for reading and posting your kind words friend! Hugs! – AND you are a lovely giver / receiver of mailed cards and notes
I have been the appreciative recipient of many letters and cards from you. It’s something very special to receive a letter. I love how you’ve taken so many photos of ones you have received.
Glad I could do something to help you -hugs
