Ambrose, France – Leonardo da Vinci’s House & Garden

On the first stop traveling to Ambrose, I am looking for soy milk. A kind soul shows me the French words for soy milk

The wallpaper at the desk in our hotel

Juxtapose old & new

I didn’t realize when walking past this ‘statue’ that it was a live man. It wasn’t until looking at this picture carefully that I see his wrist. Now I realize that his can is to put money in when talking his picture or posing with him.

I remember this being done in the French Quarter in New Orleans.

We continue to follow Claire to the house where Leonardo da Vinci lived from 1516 to 1519 when he died. In the bottom right corner of this picture, Claire’s pointing out the stairs she says lead an amazing view of the city Amboise. Bruce & I decide to climb it on our way back. There’s more beautiful purple wisteria next to the stairs!

More of what catches my eye as we walk…

Leonardo da Vinci’s home, built in 1471 – juxtapose with a 2024 jet

This is where to Leonardo da Vinci slept. What did he dream…

Out in Leonardo da Vinci’s garden now – which is more like a park

My husband walking across a bridge in the garden

da Vinci must not have needed any ‘down time’…his many interest and talents were beyond amazing…

What gets my attention on the walk back…

The shape of this door calls out to me. I also like that it’s actually two doors. It looks very old….how far back in history do you go door? Who has walked through you…what were their stories…

Lovely front door. Looks new and thus rather out of place. Pretty color.

The bell is especially charming.

This looks so out of place and touristy

We make it back from da Vinci’s house to the stairs Claire had pointed out on our way to the master’s home – the stairs she said lead to an amazing overlook of Ambrose.

The first group of stairs leads to this ‘Alice in Wonderland’ door…

More stairs…

More stairs…

Finally made it to the top!

In a different direction from the city there’s blue sky and brilliant wildflowers

Bruce wanted to take my picture here near the stairs back down

What catches my eye back in town:

Music is attention grabbing! Taking pictures, I make eye contact with a member and dash across the street to put money in the guitar case.

This picture captures a guitarist taping his toe to the music.

There is a church every few minutes in Europe. On an impulse we stepped into this one near our hotel

For one magical moment the church was filled with the singing of an angel. But then – aware of our presence, she flew away.

The reflection of the stained glass on the marble floor was eye catching

St Theresa is my confirmation saint

St Joseph with the boy Jesus is somewhat of a rarity

I find it comforting to light a candle…

Bruce asked me how much Latin I remembered – ha

As we walked hurriedly to and from our hotel, repeatedly passing this lovely purple bush I’d think – I need to stop and take a picture. I finally did!

Our preference for dinner on our own is to get something to take to our room. Walking towards our hotel we find a bakery and ordered a sandwich to share. Bruce gets a piece of quiche as well. I take pictures while Bruce waits in line.

So many fancy desserts we pass over. The less sugar I eat, the less sugar I want.

Cute left-over Easter goodies we don’t buy.

Beautiful dishes in the window – not coming home with us

Back in our hotel room we make tea.

The way that the sunlight catches the liquid gets my attention – I ask my husband to hold his cup up so I can take a picture.

Another lovely reminder of da Vinci in our hotel room – what a life

Our room has a teeny balcony with a view of the parking lot and the highway – BUT across the highway is the river. We watch the sunset over the water. I take pictures with my amazing new phone camera every few minuets. The sky turns from pale yellow to deep orange until it is at perfection – lovely closing to this day with my husband

Tomorrow – Mont Saint Michel and the next morning at the abbey…

Thank you for joining me in this day in Ambrose, France

  1. Your photo journal of your day in Ambrose is a ‘hug’! Thank you! I love that one can take photos of pretty (dishes) items we spot vs having them to buy and pack (fragile!) and try to find a home for, cluttering up space. 😉 Take a picture! 😍

    1. Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed my post, Susie! Yes, my photos are my favorite souvenirs! I remember so much more of our travels with my pictures & OMG you can’t beat today’s cameras on our phones with no film required! We put our travel pictures in the electric frame and enjoy them all the time!

I can’t pass up everything in every shop and I did buy more on this trip than I usually do but my pictures are the best!
