Mountain Magic

Rainbow Clouds

Nature almost always plays a part in a really good day for me. This morning’s walk on our nature trail included a rainbow cloud. It is a fairly rare phenomenon. It’s a little miracle to me that I was in the right place at the right time to get to see this.

Rainbow clouds are fairly rare, said Carfango, who co-hosts “America’s Morning Headquarters.” They are often spotted near the polar regions, or in mountain areas in the winter. The clouds need to be near the sun. The clouds must be very thin and made of ice crystals or water droplets of uniform size.

Cloud iridescence or irisation is a colorful optical phenomenon that occurs in a cloud and appears in the general proximity of the Sun or Moon.

This was another little mountain miracle right in our backyard that I got to see. May of 2012 this duckling was warming itself on a rock at the same time I was there with our sheltie Spring, with my camera. Back then I didn’t have a cell phone with a built-in camera that I always carry around. Spring was so interested and gentle with the baby duck.

This water fall is so close we walk to it. We have never seen someone else there!  Joy and I both looked better a decade ago. Hard to believe pictures of our grandmothers in their 50’s  – they looked old…

The spotted babies are always a joy and a little miracle to be in the right place at the right time for a good picture! This was August 2011.

This was another little miracle – right place / right time for the sun to hit perfectly giving a glow to the photograph. August 2011

January 2007 – this was on my morning walk at home, with my camera – we don’t get this much wildlife at home anymore

I could go on and on with – to me – these are the happy little surprises / the amazing being one with nature accomplishments, that make life worth living – and for us, right at home. These experiences, these memories give me such joy.

JOY my word for the new year.

What gives you joy?

  1. EnJOYed your photos and narrative. 😊
Indeed! creation invokes Joy for me, too, as well as laughter…especially shared…from mutual moment of shared Joy; you know? And children. I received a text message from a friend yesterday, a movie of her 8 month old grandson consumed with laughter, enjoying his swing. Contagious!
