Healthy Living

This is totally natural Crystal showing her magnificent colors naturally – visible from our garden, my writing nook, our front deck – nothing was done to enhance any of my Crystal Peak photographs – we get to live with this view and we don’t take it for granted.

The experts say: when we are out in nature, we can heal emotionally. Nature is a tonic for physical well-being. Experiencing nature can possibly reduce blood pressure, stabilize heart rate, and decreases the production of stress hormones. Reconnecting with nature can reduces stress and calms our nerves.

What I know for sure is that living and walking in nature is my happy place. It lifts my spirits! Both the exercise of walking and peacefulness of just being here are uplifting to me, and that sometime helps with my depression. It doesn’t take an expert to tell us that being out in nature feels so good to be in a beautiful place!

One doesn’t have to live in the mountains or on a beach to enjoy nature’s beauty and healing effects. I am enjoying our garden with our border collie and youngest grandchild. A pretty garden, park or green space can give that uplifting sensation of nature’s soothing salve.  The ribbons around the fence keep the flower eating deer out of our garden!

Seeing my garden as a safe environment,  alive with butterflies, hummingbirds and bugs – makes me happy

Elsa, my human charge and Joy, our sweet sheltie fur baby enjoy the garden. They see the butterfly! I’ve been Elsa’s nanny / tutor since 2013 when was

2-years-old. I’m a mom and grandma with a master’s degree in education and early childhood is among my teaching certifications. Children are so fun as everything is new and amazing to them!

My husband and I are with our dogs on a picnic / hike. For us, just enjoying a different spot once in awhile is a refreshing difference in our routine. Simple pleasures are the best!

I think a happy life is living as healthy as possible so we can go, see, do! A full live is having someone to love – something to do – something to look forward to. Someone to love can be our spouse, fur baby, a child…many people volunteer and or have fulfilling hobbies as well as work or in their retirement…a good book, vacation, having company or going on an enjoyable walk are all events I look forward to – what are you looking forward to? What’s a simple pleasure for you? How do you like to spend your free time?

  1. I so agree with you, sister, about the garden! We live in a concrete jungle in downtown San Francisco, but we have a community garden that we, the garden members, have turned into a sanctuary. We grow several types of fruit, but our main product is peace. Yep, we have little cubbies all around our garden, where our members and guests can sit with a book, or simply in quiet meditation, any time of the day. I’ve heard so many of our members tell of the peace that they found, after they started going to it regularly.

  2. Amen! NATURE is breath.

Tell me about the ‘ribbons’ around the fence to keep the deer from eating your flowers? I need to pass on details of this trick to Ben and Nikki!

    Thank you!

    1. To keep the deer out of our garden so they don’t eat our flowers, Bruce puts up these tall sticks attached to the regular fence (which the deer can / do jump over) & then puts a ribbon between sticks all the way around opur fence. Text me if you would like more pictures 🙂
